I have been in Utah for the past week on a business trip. My expectations weren't that high because I was thinking that Utah was just a flat, lifeless desert with a bunch of ultra-strict Mormons who didn't like to have fun. Well, my initial trepidations were unwarranted because Utah was fun, pretty, and not jam packed with Mormons as I thought it would be. There was certainly a more conservative philosophy at work, but then again the crime rate is pretty low there, and the neighborhoods were all pretty nice...so maybe the Mormon influence isn't that bad.
Anyway, I flew out on Monday the 22nd, and flew back on Sunday the 28th. The weather was great except for the weekend. It went from the mid-eighties, down to about the high-fifties in less than 12 hours. The rain came pouring down and some of the clouds that rolled in looked menacing. It was as if there was a masked horeseman riding forth from the dark roiling masses above.
Here's a few of the highlights:
* I found my dream home and it was a big pile of kickass.
* I went to Park City which is the Utah equivalent of Aspen, CO. It was beautiful and had a pant-load of art galleries with the best art I've seen in years.
* The mountains were great and I took a fun road trip through the canyons around Provo.
* The business part of my trip went well and I passed this big certification test for my job.
So it was a great trip and I am glad I went. My original perceptions of Utah were dispelled and even the flights weren't that bad. Although the exception was the Atlanta to Akron return leg on Sunday night. I was crammed into the window seat by this heavy yahoo beside me. He was sporting the bloatee, see this Achewood comic strip for clarification, and he did possess a horrible man ring. Everyone else had their overhead lights off and were being pleasant...this assbag had the light on and was reading Car and Driver magazine, his beady eyes scanning the intriguing articles about cars that he could never afford. Fortunately that flight was only an hour and fifteen minutes long.
For some eye candy, here's a picture of my dream house that I found on my trip...

Sounds like you had a good time!
PS NICE dream home!
Hey Sphinx,
It was a great trip. That house is pretty cool isn't it? It was even better in person...I wish I could've setup an appt. with the real estate agent to take a look at it even though I couldn't afford it. It would've been nice just to see what the insides of a house like that looks like.
Have a good weekend!
